At his core, Finnegan is gentle, soft-spoken, and rather timid. His idea of a happy day is one spent singing songs and caring for a garden. He's generally avoidant of social situations, since he gets overwhelmed by them quite easily. But he nevertheless holds a deep love and care for people.Despite his preference for peace over conflict, he takes up his blade for the weak and weary. He will instantly shed away any timidity and nervousness to stand up for someone who can't do so on their own.For these purposes, Finnegan's swordsmanship is one of constant challenge and improvement, until such a day he can cut a path to the farthest end, a tomorrow where people no longer have to suffer.

In Finnegan's hands is the sword Tailwind Gale. Forged by an angel, it is a divine weapon with all the power that implies. Its adamantine steel eternally courses with a slight breeze and reflects the image of the morning sky. Protecting the wielder from adverse magic, its blade is especially punishing towards the demonic, leaving blowing winds and arcs of light in its wake.Finnegan himself is a Paladin, drawing on the power of divine magic through his faith and prayer. This is also what further grants him resistance to magic on top of the protection Tailwind Gale provides. The real power behind Finnegan's attacks, however, is his swordsmanship itself. What he lacks in raw power relative to most other heroes he's able to compensate for with sheer speed and skill.Tailwind Gale has yet to unleash its full power, and neither has Finnegan achieved the absolute peak of swordsmanship. But as he continues his journey of honing his skills, so too will his sword and his very understanding of himself change...

Born to a noble family, Finnegan would spend most of his early life learning to fight, due to growing up in times of turmoil between the ruling families of the region. He is eventually forced into action when he escapes a brutal attack on his family's territory.Much of Finnegan's time is spent wandering the lands, living on what it can provide as he goes from village to village in an effort to protect the people from the schemes and battles by the other noble families.Finnegan eventually plans to one day unite the nobility under one banner, and bring forth a new age where people can work together for the sake of the future. However, he recognizes the long, difficult quest this will be, and thus he constantly strives to better himself for it, not only as a swordsman but also as a person.

The more Finnegan pushes his swordsmanship skills in accordance to his Oath, the more he recovers the pieces of who he once was. It's not only the memories of his life, but of the truth that guides his sword. The person calling himself 'Finnegan McGrath' is essentially a construct. It is a composite of his lingering soul which couldn't move on to the afterlife, and the ruined, unstable core of an archangel, brought together by their regrets and a desperate desire to not fade away. That archangel's name is Gadreel. The Primarch of Swordsmanship, he was one of the very few individuals in the Sky Realm that reached the absolute pinnacle of the sword. He generally presents himself in a quiet, dignified manner. Beneath that, however, he is very much a swordsman, and will thus gladly challenge other masters of the craft if he should encounter them. Sharp with both his blade and his mind, Gadreel is unhesitating in combat and in judgement. He will cut down evil when he sees it, and he will speak his mind unfiltered. Still, he is fundamentally a protector of good and guardian to the weak and weary, so his fight is ultimately for those who call upon him for help and for the sake of the world. But this came at a heavy cost. The fighting he took part in to protect the Sky Realm carried on tirelessly for centuries, if not millennia, of slaying threats to the Sky Realm and its denizens. His entire existence would eventually degrade and damage his core from the recoil. It was only Gadreel's fusion with Finnegan's soul, who had once swore the Oath of the Sword to him, that allowed him to continue in some capacity, even if his own identity had been sealed away in what was essentially a lucid dream with Finnegan's identity taking the lead. The closer Finnegan comes to the absolute pinnacle Gadreel once reached, the more Gadreel reawakens, till eventually he might even take the reins of consciousness once more. However, times of desperation or things seriously personal to Gadreel may result in a partial, temporary manifestation before then.
Finnegan does indeed succeed in his quest to unite the people of his land, allowing them a future in which peace with each other is possible, and can live longer lives than before. However, this peace ultimately does not last long.Finnegan eventually finds himself ruler of a land constantly struggling with monster and demon invasions. And with the land and its people facing greater threats than before, he rallies them under his banner. The battles do not come easy. Several more lives are lost with each battle. But Taliesin is able to hold its ground, with its warrior king at the helm. And with time, they gradually adjust to the demands of constant battle.Still, Finnegan seeks to one day find the problem at its source, and bring back peace to the kingdom he fought so hard to make possible. This is a Finnegan who is clearly straining under both battle and royal duties, but nevertheless maintains his soft gentleness overall. However, he is older and wiser now, and it shows in both his improved swordsmanship but also in his demeanor, more refined and formal, showing less timidity than before.
